Cross Stitch on Felt

This is my first attempt to do cross stitch on felt. Ever since I started doing felt craft, I hardly do any cross stitching which is actually my first love. No, I haven't forgotten it...I simply do not have the time...*sigh!*
Anyway, when my son's 14 year old classmate requested me to make a pink heart keychain with lots of letterings, I simply had to take the opportunity to cross stitched it instead of sticking felt/foam letterings.

For the front view, she requested to put the letters i, l, y, s. f, d, m. Don't ask me what the letters stand for...I guess it's I Love You So F..D...Much? I decided to use pastel colors felt and freehand stitching for the letters.

For the rear, she asked to put the letters SN,UK. This is when I decided to cross stitched the letters. Here's how it looks like. It's quite tricky because the letters consist of full stitch, half stitch and back stitch.
My son's friend is delighted with the result and to me that's the most important thing! ;-)

Only One Mother in The Whole World

Remember I said that I will tell about the cross stitch that I initially did for my mom but kept it for myself instead?  Well, that happened a few years back when a friend, K.Midah showed me a book that her son gave. In it were poems, etc about mothers. Very lovely book indeed and I decided to make a cross stitch based on an excerpt from a poem (author unknown).

Most of all the other beautiful things in life came by twos and threes,
by dozens and hundreds,
Plenty of roses, stars and sunsets, rainbows,
brothers and sisters, aunts and cousins,
But only one mother in the whole world

For the border, I used a chart I bought in my hometown a few years earlier (very cheap) which I had stashed and almost forgotten about it (Luckily I remember where I stashed it). I began with stitching the borders first....I always love flowery design. So when I saw the flowers beginning to take shape one by one, it was motivation enough to keep on going. The hard part was trying to fit in all the above excerpt right in the middle of the design. I had to decide on the right font size and it was quite difficult to do. But I did it anyway. Here's the result.

OK, closer view...

After I completed framing and all, that's when I realized that I should keep this piece myself as a constant reminder...I felt that it would meant more to me than to my mom (afterall she doesn't speak English). This piece has a pride of place in my living room and whenever I look at it, my mom comes to my mind. I love you Mak!

Current Cross Stitch Project

Here's my current cross stitch project.

(Awatlah bila upload, kain dia nampak blue? Walhal I took this photo under natural light...sigh!)

I started this since 1st March 2010! OMG! It's nearly one year and what you see here is not even half completed. This is a giant project. Sampaikan chart dia pun dah nak hampir lunyai...tapi tak siap2 jugak. And I feel guilty to start stitching other smaller projects...but come to think of it, bagus gak kalu I start smaller projects. Cepat siap and can boost my morale! hehehe!

Nanti bila dah siap my mega project ni, I will upload the finished product photo. Entah bilalah tu..jangan2 in the year 2020 nanti...huhuhuhu!
